"MOTHER"
Never in the least did mother consider any daughter-in-law worth her sons.
Her sons are, for mother, the most priceless of all things on earth_living or inanimate.
It was mother who was almost always wont to say that she must not be seated even on the same floor with moms who gave birth to daughters.
How proud she was of her sons, in that she gave birth to none but sons!
And she's still conceited up till now.
Mother was not very literate. She spelt words on reading_that was her reading style.
Much illiterate as she was, mother tenaciously kept reading and memorizing with my help, saying "Nga Minaung, come read me this one".
Hardly had just over a month gone by when she did manage to fluently recite Ratana sutta by rote.
Old women of her own age were awed by the fantastic memory of mother, who was then on the wrong side of 60.
"Hey, Minaung, you're on a par with me when it comes to memory".
Despite the fact that mother said so, I know my memory is below par, compared with hers.
How could I outdo mother when it comes to memorizing something?
How can my memory be just as good as hers?
What a splendid memory she had, recollecting around a hundred debtors' list only too well!
"Nga Ni paid back fifty pyas, and twenty-five pyas in debt. Nga Phyu took a kyat again, amounting to 125 pyas.
She bore give and take, credit and interest, profits and losses in mind without making a note.
Mother, who didn't have a chance to do the formal learning in spite of her marvellous memory to keep up whatever she was taught, is now as happy as can be.
Mother's eyes are showing jubilation over her triumph as if uttering to the whole world "Oh! Come and have a look at a widow's sons!"
With chopper tucked in the waist, she challenged, "Hey Piggy, come downstairs. How are you behaving? Repay my debt right away!
How dare you try me?"
She was so very courageous.
She let no one exploit the money for her sons to learn what she was not entitled to. Whosoever tried to make it lessen was her foe.
How inordinately attached she was, too!
Mother was among the top who didn't acquire a taste for Sharmee candy whose name was changed to a Thai one.
She was the sort of person who felt the original taste only when the candy was repackaged with the name of Sharmee.
Mother...
Mother who made many mistakes humanly in her life..
Mother who did lots of truths...
She's now over 80.
Though on the wrong side of 86, she still goes to the monastery to keep sabbath without fail.
She still does the gossiping as well!
She isn't, however, so brilliant as before.
She's getting forgetful.
What I worry most about mother who is far advanced in years isn't that she'll leave us in no time, but instead I just wish her to discern the very last moments with the right concentration and right mindfulness.
Today I'm going to pay obeisance and deliver a sermon to mother.

အေမ

ဘယ္ေခ်ြးမ ကမွ သူ႔သားေတြနဲ႕ ေရးေရးမွ် တန္
သည္ဟု သူမယူဆ။
သူ႔ သားေတြသည္ သူ႔အတြက္ေတာ့ ကမ႓ာေပၚရွိ
သက္ရွိအားလုံး အရာအားလုံးထက္ အဖိုးတန္ဆုံး
ေသာ အရာမ်ား ။ 
မိန္းခေလးေမြးတဲ႔ မိခင္ေတြနဲ႕
ၾကမ္းတေျပးတည္းေတာင္ မထိုင္ရဘူး လို႔
အျမဲလို ေျပာေလ့ရွိတဲ႔အေမ ။
သား ခ်ည္းေမြးထားေလေတာ့ သားမာန္တက္
သေပါ့ေလ ။
မာန္ မာန ယခုအထိမခ်ေသး ။
အေမက စာမတတ္ ၊ ကၾကီးလုံးၾကီးတင္တစ္
ေခ်ာင္းငင္ ကို ၊ ဒါက အေမ႔ စာဖတ္ဟန္ ။
စာမတတ္ေပမဲ႔   ဟဲ႔ င မင္းေအာင္     ငါ့လာ ဒါ
ဖတ္ျပစမ္း   ဆိုျပီး ဖတ္မွတ္လိုက္တာ တစ္လ
စြန္းစြန္း နဲ႕ ရတနာ့သုတ္ေဒါင္းေဒါင္းေျပး ေတာ့
တာဘဲ ။
အသက္ ၆၀ ေက်ာ္ အေမ့ဥာဏ္ကို
ရြယ္တူ အဖြားအိုမ်ား လက္ဖ်ားခါရေလသည္ ။
ဟဲ႔ မင္းေအာင္ နင္က ငါ့ဥာဏ္မီတယ္ ။
အေမ သည္လိုေျပာေပမဲ႔  မမီမွန္းက်ြန္ေတာ္သိပါ
သည္ ။
လူတစ္ရာ ေလာက္ရဲ႕ အေၾကြးစာရင္း ကို
ငနီ ငါးမူးျပန္ဆပ္ တစ္မတ္က်န္ ၊ ငျဖဴတစ္က်ပ္
ထပ္ယူ ငါးမတ္ျဖစ္ ၊ အဲ႔သလို အေပးအယူ
အက်န္ အတိုး  အျမတ္ အရွဳံး   စာမတို႔ဘဲ
မွတ္သားထားတဲ႔
အေမ့ရဲ႕ အာဃ ဥာဏ္ကို မီ ႏိုင္႐ိုးလား ။
သင္သမ်ွစာ ျဗန္းျဗန္းကြဲႏိုင္ေပတဲ႔ မသင္ခဲ႔ရတဲ႔
အေမ ။
ယခု ေတာ့ ေမာ္မဆုံး ။
ေဟ့ မုဆိုးမရဲ႕ သားေတြ လာၾကည့္ၾကစမ္း လို႔
အေမ  မ်က္ဝန္းမ်ားက ေလာက ကို လက္ခ
ေမာင္းခတ္ေနေလသည္ ။
ဓါးမတို ခါးထိုး ၊ ေဟ့ ဝက္မ အိမ္ေပၚက ဆင္းခဲ႔
စမ္း နင္ဘာအခ်ိဳးလည္း ၊ ငါ့ ေၾကြး ခုျပန္ဆပ္ ။
နင္စမ္းခ်င္သလား ။
သတိၱ ေကာင္းသမွ ေမာင္းေမာင္းနီ ပါဘဲ ။
သူ မသင္ခဲ႔ရတဲ႔ စာေတြ သူ႔သားေတြသင္ဖို႔
အဖိုးအခ ဘယ္သူကမွ လာႏွဳတ္လုိ႔မရ ။
ေလ်ာ့ပါးေအာင္ လုပ္သူ ရန္သူ ။
အစြဲလည္း သိပ္ၾကီးသေပါ့ ။
ရွားမီး သၾကားလုံး  ယိုးဒယား အမည္ေျပာင္းလို႔
အရသာ မေတြ႕သူမ်ားထဲ အေမထိပ္ဆုံးကပါ
သည္ ။ ရွာမီး အိတ္ခြံ ျပန္စြပ္ပါမွ နဂို အရသာ
ျပန္ေပၚသည့္ သူမ်ိဳး ။
အေမ ။
လူပီပီ ဘဝမွာအမွားေပါင္းမ်ားစြာ ျပဳခဲ႔ေသာအေမ။
အမွန္ေပါင္းမ်ားစြာ ျပဳခဲ႔ေသာ အေမ။
ယခု ရွစ္ဆယ္ေက်ာ္ျပီ ။
ရွစ္ဆယ္ ကို ေျခာက္ႏွစ္စြန္းေသာ္လည္း
ဥပုသ္ေက်ာင္း တက္ ဝတ္မပ်က္ ၊ အတင္းတုပ္
မပ်က္ ။
သို႔ေသာ္ ငယ္စဥ္ကလို ဥာဏ္မသြက္ေတာ့ျပီ ။
အေမ့ေမ့ အေလ်ာ့ေလ်ာ့ ။
ဟိုမွာဘက္ကမ္းဆီသို႔ ခ်ဥ္းကပ္ ေရာက္ရွိ
ေနေသာအေမ့ အတြက္  က်ြန္ေတာ္ စိတ္အပူ
ဆုံးအခ်က္မွာ က်ြန္ေတာ္တို႔ကို ျမန္ျမန္ခြဲသြား
မည့္ အေရးမဟုတ္ပါ ။
ေနာက္ဆုံးစိတ္ကေလးကို သတိေလးကပ္ျပီး
သိသြားေစခ်င္ မွဳ တစ္ခုသာျဖစ္ပါသည္ ။
ယေန႕ အေမ့ကို ကန္ေတာ့ျပီး
တရားသြားေဟာအုံးမည္ ။
